Fashion, “a popular or the latest style in clothing, hair, decorations or behaviour”.

Fashion, “a manner of doing something”.

Fashion, “a style that is popular at a particular time”.

Those are the definitions Cambridge and Oxford provide for fashion. To me, none of those is the true meaning of fashion.

Fashion is more than a bunch of clothes that look good together, more than something models wear at shows, more than a trend. Fashion is powerful.

Fashion has the power to make people feel good with themselves. No, it does not change who they are, but it changes the way they feel about their own selves. That’s why I like it.

I like fashion because anyone has the power to create it. Anyone can turn fashion into whatever they like.

Fashion gives people the ability to express themselves and look a certain way, without making any permanent changes. In some ways, fashion is like art.

I joined Medium because I want to write about fashion. The parts of fashion I like: what I consider closet essentials, my tips on styling and favourite looks. It might not be relevant. It might not be everyone’s style. But it is what I chose to do.

I don’t think fashion is exclusively what we see on runways and magazines. Not that I don’t like runways and magazines, because I do. I think they are very inspiring and creative. Fashion is whatever we want it to be.

I have always enjoyed expressing myself through clothes and fashion. I’ve always enjoyed watching fashion shows and styling clothes. It makes me happy. ❤
